About U.S. PIRG
U.S. PIRG, the federation of state Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs), stands up to powerful special interests on behalf of the American public, working to win concrete results for our health and our well-being. With a strong network of researchers, advocates, organizers and students in state capitols across the country, we take on the special interests on issues such as product safety, political corruption, prescription drugs and voting rights, where these interests stand in the way of reform and progress.
Our Federation
State PIRGs advocate for the public interest in 28 states, in addition to working together in Washington, D.C., through U.S. PIRG, the federation of state PIRGs. In 2011, Oregon State PIRG and CALPIRG kept health insurance premiums from rising higher; WISPIRG and Illinois PIRG organized events supporting the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; New Jersey PIRG and CALPIRG mounted challenges to aging nuclear plants; TexPIRG, Ohio PIRG and PennPIRG slowed the rush to privatize government services; and MASSPIRG went back to the future, reviving momentum for recycling and waste reduction and calling for an expanded Bottle Bill.
