Our Federation

State PIRGs advocate for the public interest in 28 states, in addition to working together in Washington, D.C., through U.S. PIRG, the federation of state PIRGs. In 2011, Oregon State PIRG and CALPIRG kept health insurance premiums from rising higher; WISPIRG and Illinois PIRG organized events supporting the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau; New Jersey PIRG and CALPIRG mounted challenges to aging nuclear plants; TexPIRG, Ohio PIRG and PennPIRG slowed the rush to privatize government services; and MASSPIRG went back to the future, reviving momentum for recycling and waste reduction and calling for an expanded Bottle Bill.
