Minnesota is now on the road to cleaner transportation and a more sustainable future.

On July 26, Minnesota became the 16th state to adopt advanced Clean Car standards. The plan, which takes effect in 2024, requires all new cars in Minnesota to be increasingly fuel-efficient ultra-low or zero-emission vehicles. Before the decision, Environment Minnesota delivered to Gov. Tim Walz petitions signed by hundreds of our supporters, urging him to move forward on clean cars.

“For decades, California has been a leader when it comes to making our cars more efficient and environmentally friendly,” said Morgan Folger, director of our national network’s Destination: Zero Carbon campaign, “This essential effort has resulted in cleaner air across the nation, and we’re happy to see Minnesota take up the call.”

Our network also helped secure the 2012 federal Clean Car standards, filed suit to stop the Trump administration’s rollbacks, and urged the Biden administration to restore and strengthen the standards.
