To improve the quality of our health care and push back against the special interests that dominate the debate, nothing can match the power of stories from people like you about the problems they’ve experienced with the health care system.

That’s why in March OSPIRG launched Voices for Better Care, a website dedicated to highlighting a range of voices from across the Beaver State who share our goal of improving the quality and value of Oregon health care. Their stories are at once unique and universal — common problems such as high prescription drug costs or expensive insurance premiums that personally affect thousands of Oregonians and their families.

One solution that could address a number of these issues: making a public health insurance option available on the individual and small group markets. The state Legislature is currently considering a bill to do just that, and OSPIRG is mobilizing to make it the law of the land.

“I want to add my voice to those who are calling for reform of our health care system,” writes Gloria F. “I don’t have all the answers, but my experience from volunteering at a local free clinic, and stories from friends, show me that the expense and complexity of our current health system create barriers that should not exist in the advanced and educated United States.”
