More than 400 advocate for climate action during PennEnvironment’s Lobby Day

As a key state legislative vote approached, the extent of Pennsylvania’s power to regulate climate pollution hung in the balance. Thankfully, hundreds of concerned citizens showed up in June to tip the scales in favor of climate safeguards. 

On June 10, more than 400 Pennsylvanians participated in 90 video meetings during PennEnvironment’s virtual Climate Action Lobby Day. Attendees received advocacy training and met with state legislators to support the state’s entrance into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a transition to 100 percent renewable energy, and the adoption of appliance efficiency standards. The rally also took aim at two bills that would strip the Department of Environmental Protection of its ability to regulate climate pollution.

“The public’s support for tackling climate change has far outpaced our elected officials’ willingness to implement the policies needed to ensure a safe climate for future generations,” said Flora Carodni, PennEnvironment’s field director. 

“Concerned Pennsylvanians are with us today to say that those days are over,” Flora added.
