New York state Senate Passes Right to Repair

For the second year in a row, the New York state Senate has passed Right to Repair reforms, sponsored by Sen. Neil Breslin. The bill was voted on late on Wednesday, June 1 with a vote of 59 to 4. The bill would require manufacturers to provide access to repair materials — such as spare parts, manuals and diagrams, and repair tools — on fair and reasonable terms. Action is currently pending in the Assembly. If passed it would be the first Right to Repair law covering personal electronics to pass in the U.S. Roll call for the vote is available here.
