Today, a group of states that make up the U.S. Climate Alliance pledged to deploy 20 million heat pumps by the end of the decade.
The alliance, which consists of 25 governors representing more than half of the U.S. population, made the pledge as part of a larger series of commitments to power more homes with clean energy during Climate Week NYC.
“Heat pumps allows Americans to heat and cool their homes without needlessly wasting energy,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy at Environment America. “Wiser energy use means less health-harming pollution going into our lungs and less planet-warming pollution going into our Earth’s atmosphere.”
Homeowner installing heat pumps stand to receive a 30% tax credit to help cover the cost of their system, thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act. For more information about heat pumps, check out the recorded webinar below, which is part of Environment America’s Clean Energy Home Toolkit.
